60 Minutes of Training on Alcohol Misuse and 60 Minutes on Controlled Substance Use
Did you know that all persons designated to supervise employees in safety-sensitive positions must receive certification based on 60 minutes of training regarding alcohol misuse AND 60 minutes covering controlled substances abuse (49 CFR Part 40 §382.603).
Understand the Effects of Alcohol and Drugs in the Workplace
Attention employers: Ensure all your designated supervisors of safety-sensitive commercial motor vehicle drivers receive 60 minutes of training on alcohol misuse and 60 minutes on controlled substance use. This training will empower supervisors to determine if reasonable suspicion exists for drug and alcohol testing under §382.307. Training will cover physical, behavioral, speech, and performance indicators of alcohol misuse and controlled substance use. Recurrent training for supervisors is not required, however it is recommended. Ensure your drivers are safe on the road today.

- Signs, symptoms, and behavioral indicators Alcohol misuse
- Effects of alcohol on the brain and Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC)
- Positive alcohol tests for DOT
- Drug abuse in the workplace
- Signs, symptoms, and behavioral indicators of the big 5 major drug categories
- Other legal and illegal stimulants
- How an initial positive drug test is handled
- Proper documentation for reasonable suspicion testing
- Intervention and help for the abuser
